Planning/Design Phase

Works Extent

This Project aims to improve the public realm and access in and around the Medieval Core of the City.  This includes access to Bishop Lucey Park, Elisabeth Fort, St. Fin Barre's Cathedral and the proposed new Event Centre on the site of the former Beamish & Crawford Brewery.

Objectives

This Project consists of:

  • The provision of public realm improvements to the streets and existing bridges including South Main Street, Tobin Street, Tuckey Street, South Gate Bridge, Proby’s Quay, Frenches Quay, Crosses Green, Clarkes Bridge and Wandesford Quay;
  • Two new pedestrian bridges linking Crosses’ Green to Lamley's Lane and Frenches Quay to the site for the New Event Centre will be provided;
  • Remedial repairs and vegetation removal from the quay walls along Frenches Quay, Proby’s Quay and Crosses Green will be provided.

Timeline

Part 8 Planning for the proposed works has now been approved and the detailed design is now completed.

Construction of the public realm, park and bridges is scheduled to commence in early 2024.
