Lord Mayor's Community & Voluntary Awards 2018

At an event in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Cork on Thursday 8th March 2018, the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Tony Fitzgerald, launched the 2018 Lord Mayor's Community & Voluntary Awards.

Held annually since 2004, the Lord Mayor's Community and Voluntary Awards recognise voluntary and community groups across Cork for their invaluable contribution to life in the city. The awards are presented to one overall winner and to five category winners.

The five categories are:  Advocacy/Information/Guidance; Social Services & Environment; Arts, Culture & Recreation; Community Development; Health & Well Being.

Speaking at the launch Lord Mayor Fitzgerald stated

“People who devote their time and energy to these activities do so willingly and do not expect any reward. It is extremely important that the role they play in enhancing the quality of life of all our citizens is acknowledged. These awards are intended to go some way towards recognising this contribution”.

Eoghan Dinan, Deputy Editor of the Evening Echo, title sponsor of the event added
“We are delighted at the Echo to have been involved with the project from the start and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those groups for their contribution to the social sporting and cultural life of Cork City.”

The closing date for nominations for the Lord Mayor’s Community & Voluntary Awards 2018 is Thursday, 29th March.

The Public is invited to nominate the groups they would like to see recognised for the good work in which they engage. Nomination forms may be obtained from the Community & Enterprise Section, City Hall and are available to download from
