The Structure of the Information Systems Department

Information Systems (IS) is a service department which provides technical advice and support for the City Council’s information technology requirements. The IS Department also provides information technology support for the 31 Elected Members of Council. The IS Department includes the following teams: 


Desktop Support

The team is responsible for the procurement and support of over 800 desktop PC’s and laptops throughout the organisation. This includes staff machines as well as Public Access PC’s in Libraries across the City. 

The DS team also 

  • Operates a Help Desk support facility for City Council PC’s
  • Delivers maintenance and support services for ICT peripherals across the organisation including printers, scanners, handheld units etc.
  • Installs and upgrades key corporate applications
  • Investigates and implements initiatives in areas such as green energy, encryption, thin client etc


Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)


The Enterprise Resource Planning Team is responsible for the management and implementation of information technology solutions for City Council staff.

This includes

Implementation and support of key corporate solutions including:

  • JD Edwards Enterprise Resource Planning solution
    o    Procure To Pay
    o    Order To Cash
    o    General Ledger
    o    Fixed Assets
    o    Property Manager
  • Agresso Financial Management solution incorporating:
    o    House Loans
    o    Commercial Rates
    o    Income Manager Cash Receipting
  • Core HR solution incorporating
    o    Personnel
    o    Payroll
    o    Time and Attendance

Implementation and support of bespoke financial solutions such as Metered Water and Higher Education Grants  

Support for online payment applications 

Web Services, GIS and Database

The Web Services, GIS and Database team is responsible for:

  • Technical support for the City Council’s websites
  • Development of new websites
  • Support for online planning and mapping systems
  • Represent the Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSI) in monitoring the licensing of OSI maps
  • Database administration services for City Council systems
  • Support for GIS/Computer Aided Design (CAD) applications


Network Administration 

The network team manages our Local Area Network on over 60+ sites, 800 devices and 60 Servers.

The main roles performed by the team include: 

  • Management of Virus and Security Protection
  • Management of our Servers, Storage Area Network (SAN) and switches
  • Ensuring all servers are backed up and High Availability options and maintained
  • Relationship management with suppliers
  • Planning the growth and optimisation of our Local and Wide Area Network
