Cork Docklands - Proposed Road Development

Cork City Council has prepared an Environmental Impact Statement in respect of the proposed road development comprising:

  • The construction of the Eastern Gateway Bridge and associated road network;
  • The construction of the Water Street Bridge and associated road network;
  • The raising and upgrading of Centre Park Road;
  • The raising and upgrading of Monahan’s Road;
  • Other related minor access roads

As illustrated below and has applied to An Bord Pleanála for approval of the proposed road development under Section 51 of the Roads Act 1993 as amended by Section 9 (1) (e) of the Roads Act 2007 and by the Planning and Development Acts 2000–2006.

A copy of the Environmental Impact Statement may be inspected at the front desk of the Civic Offices, City Hall, Cork between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm on working days between the 26th of May 2008 and 9th of July 2008.

A copy of the Statement may be purchased for a fee of €20. A copy of the non-technical summary of the Statement may also be purchased for a fee of €5.

Written submissions in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed road development may be made to An Bord Pleanála, 64 Marlborough Street, Dublin 1 before the 9th day of July 2008. A compulsory  purchase order has been made in respect of the proposed road development and where written objections are made to the Board, an oral hearing may, at the absolute discretion of the Board, be held.

The Board may hold an oral hearing in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed road development.

Evidence in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed road development may be given at the oral hearing.

The Board may, by order, approve the proposed road development or any part thereof, with or without conditions or modifications, or may refuse to approve the proposed road development or any part thereof. Before making its decision on the application for approval, the Board must consider the Environmental Impact Statement, any written submission made to it and not withdrawn and, where an oral hearing is held, the report and any recommendations of the Inspector holding the oral hearing where evidence was given in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed road development. Public notice of any oral hearing will be given at a later date.
