Blackpool Building Facade Improvement Grant Scheme and Douglas Street Building Facade Improvement Grant Scheme 2017

 

What area is eligible in Blackpool?

The area includes Cathedral Walk, Gerald Griffin Street, Watercourse Road, Great William O’Brien Street, Thomas Davis Street and selected side streets.

What area is eligible in Douglas Street?

The area includes Douglas Street, Water Street, George's Quay, Sullivan's Quay (part) and selected side streets.

 What works are eligible?

The scheme covers painting and minor repair works to the external fabric of buildings, such as rendering, joinery to shopfronts, signs, fascias, soffits, windows, gutters and downpipes. Other works will be considered on their merits.

 How much can I get?

The grant will cover 50% of the cost of works up to €1,250; and 50% of the cost of works up to €2,500 in the case of corner buildings, providing sufficient funds are available following the assessment of all valid applications received. The grant for paint materials is limited to €500 per building.

Cork City Council reserves the right to offer grants in excess of the stated maximums in exceptional circumstances, where the works to the building are considered to be of significant benefit to the area.

How are grants allocated?

Grant allocations will be made on a competitive basis according to the benefit of the project to the area as a whole. A scoring system will evaluate applications using criteria such as the condition and visual appearance of the building; its prominence and location; and its protection status.

How do I apply?

Building owners who wish to apply for the grant are required to return a completed application form with two quotations (itemised) for the required works from tax compliant contractors, to Planning Policy Section, Cork City Council, City Hall, Anglesea Street, by not later than 4pm, Friday 10th  March 2017. The Planning Counter is open 10.00am - 4pm, Monday to Friday. Failure to submit two quotations by 10th March 2017 will invalidate application.

Following the close of the application deadline, buildings will be inspected and shortlisted in accordance with the scoring criteria.  All applicants will be notified of the decision by 31st March 2017.

Following selection, successful applicants will be required to complete works and submit payment claims by 30th June 2017 in order to secure grant funding. Claims for the ‘cost of materials’ must include detailed receipts. Failure to submit receipts for works/ materials by 30th June will invalidate application.

Grant funding which has not been availed of/ claimed by 30th June 2017 will be re-allocated.
