Talented Workforce

With a student population of over 35,000 Cork has a well-educated, skilled and productive population, both from Ireland and overseas.

Cork is a student city of international scale offering learners and businesses the skills and resources of several higher level education institutions.

The largest of these is University College Cork, founded in 1845 and now internationally acclaimed as one of the top 2% of research institutions in the world. Offering 120 degree and professional programmes UCC has a long tradition of independent thinking and innovation – its first Professor of Mathematics, George Boole, is regarded as the father of the information age.

In May 2014 the Cork Institute of Technology was ranked in the top 10% of European higher education institutions by U-Multirank (the EU-sponsored ranking system). Both institutions have a track record of sustained and meaningful industry engagement. With a strong international reputation Cork is increasingly attracting students and advanced researchers from around the world.
