The Winter Sun at Triskel Arts Centre  October 16  2024 - April 2025

trisk

Cork’s iconic Triskel Christchurch building has been illuminated with a new work of art for the winter months.

The Winter Sun projection by acclaimed local artist Elinor O’Donovan, is the latest digital installation in the city-wide Island City sculpture trail and will be on display until the end of April next year.

Inspired by the iconic view from St. Patrick’s Hill at Bell’s Field, the work is a 10-minute looped film depicting Corkonians gathering to share a moment of togetherness, united by the beauty of a setting summer sun. The projection, digitally mapped onto the South Main Street façade of Triskel, transforms the 300-year-old Georgian building at dusk every evening.

Guinness Cork Jazz Festival – 24 – 28 October

jazz

Celebrating its 46th year, the world-renowned festival will take place over the October bank holiday weekend offering its biggest programme yet. With an extra date added, more ticketed shows than ever before, an extended music trail through the city, this year’s event is a stellar line-up of Irish and international musicians.

One of the best-loved aspects of the festival is its accessibility. In addition to shows at venues like the Cork Opera House, Live At St. Luke’s, the Everyman, and  Triskel Arts Centre, there are countless surrounding pop-up events, late night parties, boat trips, spontaneous collaborations, and even brass bands marching through the city streets, making this one of Ireland’s most popular and family-friendly festivals.

The hugely successful 2023 Guinness Cork Jazz Festival smashed all records attracting over 100,000 visitors to Cork City and this year promises to be bigger and better.

The Dragon of Shandon Parade is a free event so paint yourself up, bring your friends and family, and celebrate with us at 7pm on Thursday 31st October. The parade kicks off at Church Street, runs down Shandon Street and onto North Main Street, turning left onto Castle Street, and finishes up on the Coal Quay with a grand finale.
