Circus Explored is an initiative led by the Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle Network in association with Creative Ireland and delivered for the first time in 2022, in partnership with Galway Community Circus, Dublin Circus Project, Cloughjordan Circus Club and Circus Factory, Cork. Building on last year’s success in the distribution over 1500 Juggling Sets and skills workshops across Ireland, in 2023 ISACS are partnering with the same organisations, this time to distribute 4,000 free Spinning Plates to every county.

Each Spinning Plate set will also be accompanied by a postcard with a QR code linking to video tutorials for children and young people to learn how to spin a plate virtually with young circus practitioners from the partnering organisations. The overall initiative will conclude with an island-wide day of activity in each partner centre including Circus Factory in Cork city on Saturday, June 10th, to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg.

Youth Circus employs circus arts as a method for engaging participants in developing their personal, social, physical and creative skills through a non-formal educational setting. We, in the ISACS Network aim for every county in Ireland to grow their own Youth Circus and build communities which will benefit from all the multiple skills that one can learn through circus.

This year the initiative is supported by the Creative Ireland Programme in the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht Sport and Media as well as under the government’s Shared Island Initiative in the Department of the Taoiseach. Check https://circusexplored.ie/ for more details on the overall 2023 programme.
