12pm - 4pm
Host: Tools of the Trade with Cork City Council
Age Range: All Ages
Location: Cork City Council Atrium, Anglesea St
Time: 12pm - 4pm on 11th June 2022
Have you ever wondered what interesting things happen behind the scenes of workplaces in the city? This is exactly what children who take part in the 'Tools of the Trade' art project have the opportunity to explore! As well as an introduction to artists and craftspeople at work, they discover the creative processes and tools used in other professions.
This year the children from 5th Class at St Mary's on the Hill, Knocknaheeny went behind the scenes at the The National Sculpture Factory, Albert Road and The School of Biological Earth and Environmental Sciences, UCC with artists Leah Murphy and Susan Walsh. The results are sculptures, paintings and cyanotypes inspired by urban bio-diversity and artistic processes presented in a unique exhibition at the Atrium at Cork City Council on Anglesea St open to the public from 10am - 4pm daily.
Drop by between 12pm and 4pm on 11th June to view the work and try out some tools and materials for yourself!
Since 2017, Cork City Council have partnered with Tools of the Trade to bring this unique project to local schools as one of our ‘Art in Schools’ Programmes supported by Creative Ireland. The outcomes have demonstrated artistic excellence year on year. As well as the schools, the outcomes have been exhibited at Cork City Council’s Atrium, The Nano Nagle Centre and Cork City Council Libraries.
