Culture Night Cork City Late 2024 - From 8pm to Late

Culture Night Cork City Late 2024 - From 8pm to Late

Next Friday September 20th is Culture Night, the one night a year when venues and cultural institutions across the country throw open their door to showcase the richness of arts and culture across ireland. Cork City Council coordinates this varied programme locally, in partnership with Arts Council, and this year Cork City will see 90 venues available to visit from 4pm.

A recent focus on later events on Culture Night sees some real highlights in Cork City for those seeking culture after dark this year – including a very special secret gig.

Join two of Cork’s most interesting acts for a creative show in a Secret Location.

Cork City Council Night Time Economy & The Good Room team up to program and present a one off, late night concert, in a secret location in the heart of the city. Featuring truly innovative creators, this event is sure to book up quickly.

FIXITY is a project formed by Cork based multi-instrumentalist and composer Dan Walsh in 2015.

The project is based around the impossibility of repeated moments and manifests in solo and ensemble settings with collaborators from throughout Ireland and beyond.

For this one-off special, Fixity becomes a 5 piece with Dan on drums and vocals, Sean Maynard Smith on Bass, Brendan Riordan on Guitar, Steve Welsh on Sax/Flutes and Sam Clague on Bass clarinet/flute.

Ana Palindrome are a Cork based band made up of musicians Niamh Dalton (vocals, fiddle), Ruairi de Búrca (synths, programming) and Sara Leslie (bass, vocals).

The project centres around a fictionalised character, Ana Palindrome, developing a personality and aesthetic that propels the vision for their songwriting & music making. Ana is your nightmare-dream girl - perfect for the night that's in it.

In what promises to be a fabulous and fun show, Ireland's leading drag haus and pure Cork legends, Mockie Ah! crash land at The Everyman at 8PM this Culture Night, bringing Mockie Ah’s Camp Culture. With an incredible eighteen acts from across Ireland, expect a tour-de-force of sparkling sequins, camp comedy and non-stop nostalgia.

Our queens pay homage to their camp icons and queer favourites and meet a variety of very special guests from the worlds of burlesque, comedy and live music. With eighteen acts from across Ireland, expect a tour-de-force of sparkling sequins, camp comedy and non-stop nostalgia.

Founded by Irish drag artist Candy Warhol, Mockie Ah! is Ireland's leading Drag Haus and queer performance collective, and have performed cabarets, festival shows, club-nights and more, in Ireland and across Europe. In 2024 they hosted Bambie Thug's Cork homecoming as part of their Cork Pride lineup and this new show will mark the first of several shows at The Everyman.

Mockie Ah’s Camp Culture is funded by the Arts Council under the Culture Night Late programme.

Still further temptation to enjoy Culture Night Late is offered at Cork Opera House, which will feature an Immersive Experimental Sound Experience, specially created for Cork City Culture Night by composer Kevin Terry.

This unique auditory adventure is perfect for night owls and sound lovers. Designed to transport you to another realm, step into a world where the walls are allowed to speak. This late night event is a chance to be invigorated by new and experimental sounds, where every intonation resonates deep within.

As you wander through the spaces, encounter sound-worlds composed from the acoustics of each room. The sound interacts with the architectural nuances, creating an experience where every pulse and murmur is something that has been hanging in the air since the building’s construction - and some rooms in Cork Opera House feature walls dating back as far as 1855.

Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in a world where every room tells its story through sound.

Sinead O’Reilly, the Arts Council’s Director of Combined Arts, said: "Culture Night Late is an exciting and developing element of Culture Night, programming a fascinating range of events and attracting new audiences, later into the night. With the additional support from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Night-Time Economy Taskforce, Culture Night Late events are happening all over the country including Cork city. Cork has an amazing array of bespoke events and a real destination for Culture Night. This year, we are asking everyone, how will you Culture Night?

While all Culture Night events are FREE, booking for these Late events is essential.
