Ann Doherty, Chief Executive, Cork City Council

Cork Heritage Open Day celebrates its 16th anniversary this year and is a wonderful celebration of built heritage in the city. The event will take place on Saturday August 15th and is organised by Cork City Council as part of Heritage Week in partnership with the Heritage Council and with media sponsorship from Cork’s 96 FM and the Echo

This year due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Cork Heritage Open Day is taking place virtually and Cork City Council invites the public  to take part in an online adventure by taking virtual tours of many buildings, listen to interviews with the building owners and hear local historians talk about a variety of fascinating topics. In addition there are a number of online heritage week events ranging from natural heritage videos, virtual walking tours and fun quizzes and competitions.

“Cork Heritage Open Day is such a special celebration of our city. For one day, every year, the doors are thrown open and we, the citizens, are invited to experience the beating heart of our city. It is an invitation not to be missed”.
