For 2023 all eyes will be on Emmet Place. Breaking from previous years, this winter will see an all-new magical immersive light experience in the public plaza that will have a unique appeal for all ages.
Solas, the centre-piece of Cork’s Christmas offering, will be open to the public from Saturday, November 18, heralding the beginning of the busy Christmas shopping period.
Details of pop up events and opportunities to interact with the light show will be revealed at a later date. Advance booking is not required to experience Solas.
The much-loved 30 metre wheel is also returning to Grand Parade and the city’s retail, hospitality and cultural sectors are all gearing up to create Cork’s unique and magical Christmas experience.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Kieran McCarthy said:
“Christmas in Cork always brings a strong sense of nostalgia and a time for family or friends. Come into Town. Meet up and catch up with old friends. Take in a different view of the city from the top of the ferris wheel. Enjoy the Christmas lights and the new Solas experience. My call this year to Corkonians is to re-discover town, shop local and enjoy the experience.”
Bishop Lucey Park will not be used as a venue this year as construction works are due to begin at the park as part of its multi-million refurbishment which will open it up to the wider city centre.
