Open Streets

Cork City is tonight preparing to host an open-air playground for all ages as part of the annual much-loved Culture Night and the latest “Open Streets” event.

Culture Night/Oíche Chultúir is the annual event which celebrates culture, creativity, and the arts, and seeks to actively promote our rich and varied culture with over 200 events at over 90 venues.

Tonight, doors will be open later than usual at a range of special and unique venues with special programming at participating locations across the city and all FREE of charge.

As part of this, Cork City Councils ‘Open Streets’ initiative and Basketball Ireland bring the excitement of Paris 2024 to the city with two temporary 3x3 street basketball courts today, Friday 20th September, and Saturday 21st September.

Players of all ages and abilities are invited to come and try their hand at the two courts that will be installed temporarily on Grand Parade.

It doesn’t just end with basketball as Cornmarket Street, North Main Street, St Patrick's Street, and Grand Parade will be full of animation for the evening with music, games, and more. There will also be pop-up music along St Patricks Street.

While car parks are unaffected for those who do need to take the car, the organisers are encouraging everyone to walk, cycle or take public transport into town that day. Black Ash park & ride will be operating normal opening hours of 07:00 – 20:30. For a detailed map and further details see www.corkcity.ie.

-Culture Night at UCC: This year, for this first time, UCC is presenting a cohesive series of events in several locations indoor and out - on the main campus and also in the nearby Granary Theatre and the Confucius Centre. Whether visitors are looking for family events or activities for grown-ups, there will be something for everyone all evening.

-Cork City Library will host a fantastic array of events from Choral Performances from Voiceworks, Readings from Cork Stories, Performance from Irene Kelleher, plus Jimmy Crowley & Eve Telford will be singing a selection of Cork Songs.

-The Everyman will see leading drag haus and pure Cork legends, Mockie Ah! bringing Camp Culture to MacCurtain Street.
