This warning has advised there will be a period of “severe and potentially damaging winds” in Cork City and County between 3.00am and 8:00 a.m. on Friday, 18th February 2022. A further Orange weather warning is in place for Cork between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Friday also with heavy rain and strong winds expected throughout.
Cork City Council has activated its Severe Weather Plan. Its Severe Weather Assessment Team has met to prepare for the potential impact of the severe weather on the city. The Crisis Management Team will meet this afternoon.
Cork City Council is advising the public as follows:
There is no flooding predicted for Cork City during the period of the storm.
Cork City Council’s Operations crews will be on the ground from 08:00 a.m. after the red warning has lifted to assess and to deal with any damage or obstruction caused by the storm. Emergency Services will be on standby.
Please take care and drive with extra caution on Friday morning (once the red warning expires) when travelling to work or other appointments as there may be debris on the roads following the strong overnight winds.
The City Council’s Customer Service Unit (CSU) has extended its Friday opening hours and will be available from 08:00 a.m. on Friday morning, to allow members of the public contact us with any issue that may arise due to this severe weather event. The CSU can be contacted on 021-4924000.

Cork City Council public services such as offices, parks, multi storey car parks at Paul St and North Main Street, civic amenity sites and libraries will not open to the public until the later time of 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, to ensure the safety of service users and staff.
