Broadcaster, author and Irish rugby legend, Donncha O’Callaghan will join a panel of well-known Cork entrepreneurs to highlight the importance of resilience in business. The lunchtime event has been organised by Local Enterprise Office, Cork City for Local Enterprise Week 2024.
Local Enterprise Week runs from Monday March 4th to Friday March 8th. There is a mixture of in-person and online events which are all free to attend but people must register online to attend.
‘Resilience For Business Success’ takes place on Friday, March 8th at the Vienna Woods Hotel. Donncha O’Callaghan will be joined by founder of Poppulo, Andrew O’Shaughnessy and Managing Director and owner of Vibes and Scribes, Joan Lucey. Broadcaster and communications expert Jonathan Healy, founder of Healy Communications, will be the MC for the event.
Dr Niall O’Keeffe, Head of Enterprise at the Local Enterprise Office, Cork City, said: “LEO Cork City is aware of the challenges that businesses face such as recruitment and retention, increased costs and logistics issues, it can be a very difficult time for any business when they’re faced with these pressures. It’s critical for a successful business to have the resilience to overcome these challenges and to stay strong in the face of adversity. We are really looking forward to hearing about the experiences of Andrew O’Shaughnessy and Joan Lucey who have shown extraordinary resilience over the years to grow hugely successful businesses. The addition of Donncha O’Callaghan on the panel is really exciting as he has shown incredible resilience throughout his career.”
Joan Lucey of Vibes and Scribes added; “Working for yourself is not an easy role. If it was, everyone would be doing it. But it is very rewarding and the rewards are not just financial gains. It’s the emotional satisfaction of each successful achievement, big and small. People need to be aware that setting up a business is going to be a challenge. I always say that resilience is like a muscle in that it grows and gains strength the more you work on it and this is so important for a successful business.”
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney T.D. will also launch the revised guidebook for businesses at the event, titled “Business Development in Cork: An Entrepreneurs Guide, 2024”.
Another highlight of Local Enterprise Week in Cork City is a webinar on how to minimise cyber security risks for small businesses. The webinar on Monday, March 4th will be delivered by Cyber Skills Lecturer at MTU, Gillian O’Carroll.
There will also be an event on how to be successful in exporting to overseas markets and another event called ‘All In A Day’s Work’ which will help businesses to drive sales, improve productivity and reduce costs.
