Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Colm Kelleher has launched an exciting new art competition for Cork City’s Primary Schools!

The competition calls on 5th and 6th class primary school students to share how they feel about air quality and biodiversity, and how they think their school or neighbourhood could benefit from enhanced greening.

Students must design poster (painting, drawing, or using photo/ photos you have taken) and write 200 words (or less) of text, outlining an idea for making your school and neighbourhood a healthier place to live; by enhancing biodiversity and therefore improving air quality.

There are some fantastic prizes to be won!

  • 3 overall winners will receive vouchers for “The Bike Shed’’ (1st= €600, 2nd= €500, 3rd= €400) – supporting active and emission free travel
  • Prize for the 1st place winner’s school:
    •  A visit to the school by a horticulturist, who will advise and carry out planting for biodiversity and cleaner air, in a chosen area of the school.
    •  A visit by wildlife expert Jim Wilson, to talk to the students about biodiversity and its importance for clean air.
