Significant rainfall is expected between midnight tonight, Friday, October 4, and midnight tomorrow, Saturday, October 5.
In advance of this warning, operations crews have been clearing gullies, trash screens and debris and this will continue throughout the weekend.
This rainfall is expected to lead to localised flooding and increased leaves, branches, and possibly fallen trees on roads. Certain tributaries of the River Lee may also become overwhelmed leading to localised river flooding.
Spot flooding, surface water and hazardous driving conditions is expected. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are asked to proceed with caution during these times.
We are asking that members of the public please take the following measures:
• Don’t make any unnecessary journeys during the period of the orange warning and if you must travel, be vigilant for the risk of flooding on roads.
To report urgent situations e.g. localised road flooding, please contact Cork City Council on 021 4966512.
Emergency situations should always be reported directly to the Emergency Services. The Emergency Services may be contacted by dialing 112 or 999.
The situation will continue to be monitored and further advice will be issued, if the situation changes. Updated advice, if required, will be posted on Cork City Council’s website and social media accounts as well as the City Council’s Public Alert System (MapAlerter).
