Interreg Europe FEEL Project
Cork City Council has been chosen to take part in an Interreg Europe Project. The FEEL Project helps policymakers understand the frugal city approach, applying resource sufficiency and community cooperation to achieve a greener Europe. FEEL stands for Frugal cities through Energy Efficiency and Low-tech communities. The over-use of resources is impacting our lives, damaging the environment, and increasing demands on raw materials. FEEL aims to influence policymakers by developing the frugal approach to resource use, enabling people to live good lives within the planet’s limits. The frugal city methodology uses two different cross-cutting approaches to designing urban services, infrastructure, and buildings.
SUFFICIENCY is about meeting needs in ultra-simple ways without altering the quality of the result. The sufficiency approach can be implemented to reduce the demand for energy, land, water, and other virgin raw materials over the lifecycle of buildings, goods and transport. Introducing a sufficiency approach by reusing, repurposing used materials, and extending the lifetime of products will contribute to Ireland’s Circular Economy Strategy and in turn reduce our energy demand.
COOPERATION is about working together to overcome the challenges faced across the world today. The challenge to reduce our energy demand will not be achieved individually. Cooperation between decision makers, elected officials, Non-Governmental Organizations, and citizens will increase the collective benefit for all combatting energy poverty and resource depletion.
