Glanmire Bridge Rehabilitation Project 2024
Works Extent
Glanmire Bridge is an existing three span masonry arch Bridge, located in Glanmire on the L2999 road, approximately 8km east of Cork City. Glanmire Bridge is included in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and is also included in the Record of Protected Structures.
Scope of Works
- Repair and repoint damaged sections of masonry spandrels, head walls, wing walls, abutments and arch barrels in accordance with conservation best practice.
- Repair and rebuild cutwaters and any damaged section of scour protection in accordance with conservation best practice.
- Rebuild and raise both masonry parapets and approach walls in accordance with conservation best practice.
Objectives
The objectives of the works are:
- Restore the overall structure integrity of the bridge and retain its heritage and aesthetics.
- Improve road user safety by raising parapets height to current safety standards.
Timeline
Construction started on 15th July 2024 and was completed in September 2024.
