Cork Science and Investment Park Access Road Phase 1

Works Extent
A new road approximately 2.1 km long linking the existing N40 Curragheen Interchange with an existing roundabout located within the Cork Institute of Technology campus. The road will include pedestrian/cycle facilities, a segregation area and access spurs to facilitate future third-party developments. Two bridges are required along the length of the road to cross the Curragheen River. In addition, improved works to the existing N40 Curragheen Interchange will be required, which will comprise modifications to the northern roundabout and provision of a free flow slip lane from the N40 eastbound off slip to the access road. Other consequential construction works will also be required to complete the development. All works will be located within the townlands of Carrigrohane and Ballinaspig More.
Objective
The goal of this scheme is support the development of a Science and Innovation Park paired with a future proofed design that will integrate with the surrounding area and promote the use of sustainable and efficient transportation such as public transportation, walking and cycling to and from the area while constraining the use of private cars.
Timeline
The first phase of the scheme will include improvement works to the existing, N40 Curragheen Interchange and a 300 metre road, and subject to funding approvals, construction of the project will take approximately c. twelve months to complete.
