Douglas East West Link

Planning/Design Phase

Works Extent

The scheme involves the design and construction of a new link road over the Ballybrack Valley. The proposed link road will connect the R609 Carrigaline Road and the R851 Donnybrook Hill Road. The scheme will involve approximately 82m span bridge constructed at height over the Ballybrack Valley, upgrading of the Donnybrook Hill and Grange Road junction from a T junction to a 4-way junction and the creation of a new T junction on the Carrigaline Road with the new bridge.

  • Provide an alternative and more direct route for pedestrians and cyclists who travel from east to west (and vice versa) through Douglas and provides a convenient route for students travelling from the Maryborough Woods area to schools on Grange Road and Donnybrook Hill;
  • Improve the connectivity between the Maryborough Hill area and Frankfield / Grange and will provide improved access between the new residential estates on Maryborough Hill with the primary schools in Douglas.

Start: Consultants were appointed in Q1 2022 to under Preliminary Design and bring the scheme to Part 8 Stage.  Detailed Design to follow once Preliminary Design & Planning Stage complete.
