Glanmire to City Centre Cycle Route (Phase 2)

Works Extent

The Glanmire to City Centre Cycle Route (Phase 2) will provide a safe high-quality link for cyclists from Dunkettle/Tivoli Roundabout to the City Centre.

It is envisaged that the scheme design will incorporate:

  • Segregated cycle facilities along the route;
  • Footpath widening and enhancement;
  • Possible alterations/upgrading to existing signalised junctions/pedestrian crossings;
  • Possible new signalised junctions along the route, depending on final option;
  • Possible new pedestrian/cycle bridge depending on final option chosen;
  • Possible provision of a boardwalk depending on final option chosen;
  • Signage and way finding improvements along the route.

Objectives

This project aims to:

  • Create an environment which will encourage modal shift to sustainable forms of transport for those living in the Glanmire area;
  • Enhance connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists;
  • Provide a safe and high-quality route for commuters, school users and leisure enthusiasts;
  • Improve quality of life for residents in the area;
  • Expand overall cycle network;
  • Reduce traffic volumes on the road network.
