Marina Park Phase 2

Planning/Design Phase

Works Extent

Marina Park Phase 2 will build on the work recently completed in Phase 1.  The overall park design is guided by the Marina Park Masterplan.  Phase 2 will extend from the Atlantic Pond to Church Avenue in Blackrock.  The Park will include a "Nature" zone of the park, accommodating picnic areas, boating facilities, adventure play areas, preserved marshland zone and several architectural heritage sites.

Objectives

The Project aims to:

  • Provide an "eco-park" and an area of high-quality public realm and landscape, while protecting and enhancing the natural heritage and biodiversity of the area;
  • Integrate the design with other proposed and constructed developments adjacent to Marina Park Phase 2, such as the Blackrock Greenway, the Marina Promenade Scheme and the Monahan Road Extension;
  • Provide linkage with residential areas immediately south of the park and connectivity with local public transport.

Timeline

Planning for the proposed Park is now complete.  The detailed design process is advancing.  Construction is anticipated to commence in early 2024 subject to funding and other approvals.  The delivery of Marina Park will provide the main public open space in the South Docklands and act as a key economic driver and catalyst towards the regeneration of the area.
