Douglas Street, White Street & Mary's Street

Planning/Design Phase

Works Extent

The project aims to improve the public realm, encourage active travel and facilitate economic activity in the Douglas Street area.  The project aims to enhance the overall appeal of the area and promote the historical sites along these streets (such as Red Abbey, Nano Nagle Place, etc.)

The Design Team has now been appointed and the preliminary design is underway.  Planning for the proposed re-design will be sought in 2024 with detailed design and construction to follow thereafter.

Objectives

  • Create an environment which will encourage a shift to more sustainable forms of transport (cycling & walking);
  • Improve quality of life for residents and economic activity in the area;
  • Enhance connectivity within the area;
  • Regenerate the street and linkages to the city centre;
  • Improve the streetscape to further support the historic sites in the South Parish area.

Timeline

Part 8 planning for the scheme is expected to be submitted during early 2024 with construction to follow later in the year subject to planning and financial approvals.
