City Centre Pavement Restoration Scheme 2024

Under Construction

Updated 20 September 2024

Grand Parade will reopen to two way traffic from 5 p.m. on Friday 20 September, following completion of work on the restoration of the pedestrian crossings.

Over the recent months significant restoration works have been carried out within the City Centre to enhance and restore the streetscape of St. Patrick Street and Grand Parade.

Phase 1 concentrated on the restoration of 5 granite pedestrian crossings on St. Patrick Street, the restoration of line marking, the painting of street lighting and the restoration of carriageway pavements on Daunt Square and was completed by mid-July 2024.

Phase 2 focused on the restoration of 4 granite pedestrian crossings on Grand Parade, the resurfacing of Washington Street junction and associated line marking. These works have now been successfully completed on schedule and all traffic restrictions on Grand Parade will be lifted by 17:00 Friday 20th September, whereby normal 2-way traffic flows will return to the street.

Phase 3 will see the remainingelements of this project completed over the coming weeks as follows:

  • The replacement of damaged bike racks, bollards, signage, and street furniture.
  • The restoration of timber decking at tree surrounds on Grand Parade.
  • The removal of redundant street signage to de-clutter the streetscape in advance of the new Way Finding scheme, will also be completed on Grand Parade and St. Patrick Street.
  • The restoration of isolated damaged pavement surfaces will also be completed on St. Patrick Street and Grand Parade.

It is not envisaged that the remaining works on this project will require any further traffic restrictions on St. Patrick Street and Grand Parade.
