Cork City has received the Purple Flag accreditation, a recognition of its commitment to creating a dynamic, secure, and vibrant evening and night time economy for the 11th year in a row.

Cork City Council has acquired the historic Counting House building complex on South Main Street, as part of the wider regeneration of the Grand Parade Quarter, to become the new home of Cork City Central Library, the main library of the Cork City Council library network and a new landmark cultural facility in the heart of Cork City centre.
