CORK CITY COUNCIL
Pedestrian Safety Interventions
Notice Under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994
Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following traffic management measures in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users.
Rathmore Road
It is proposed to install a section of Footpath on Rathmore Road to provide a pedestrian link from the Old Youghal Road to Glen Avenue. The works will also include the upgrading of several sections of footpath along the route. The footpath will be raised at the junctions on Rathmore Road to provide pedestrian priority. New footpaths, road markings and signage as well as ancillary works will also be carried out in the area.
The main elements of the proposed works at this location are:
- New section of foopaths to be installed on Rathmore Road in front of the old Cork Prison and in front of the Blackpool Business park.
- Upgrade and widening of sections of footpaths along Rathmore Road
- New and upgraded footpaths are to be raised across several junctions along Rathmore Road.
- Provison of uncontrolled pedestrian crossings along the route.
- New road marking and signage.
- Other necessary associated works.
In accordance with the Habitats Directive, an Appropriate Assessment Screening has been carried out for the project, in relation to any potential impacts upon the Cork Harbour Special Protection Area [Site No. 004030] and the Great Island Channel Special Area of Conservation [Site No. 001058]. The findings of the AA screening concluded that no significant effects on any Natura 2000 sites is likely and it was not necessary to undertake any further stage of the Appropriate Assessment process.
In addition, the proposed development has been screened to determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required and it has been concluded that there will be no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development and that an EIA is not required.
Details of the proposed works are available for inspection online at https://consult.corkcity.ie from Friday the 29th of May 2020 to Friday the 26th of June 2020.
Any observations in relation to this proposal should be made on electronically through https://consult.corkcity.ie/en/ or forwarded in an envelope marked “Pedestrian Safety Interventions” to Senior Engineer, Infrastructure Development, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork. Final date for submissions is 4pm on Friday the 26th of June 2020.
All comments, including names and addresses of those making submissions and observations, submitted to Cork City Council in regard to this scheme, will form part of the statutorily required report to be presented at the monthly meeting of Cork City Council. Accordingly, they will be included in the minutes of that meeting and may appear in the public domain. Cork City Council will retain data for no longer than is necessary and in accordance with the Council’s Retention Policy and relevant Data Protection legislation.
