12th December 2022

Cork City Council would like to remind communities and businesses that the Met Eireann cold weather Yellow Alert for Cork remains in effect today and continues until Friday.

It is predicted that overnight temperatures will fall very low, leading to widespread frost and icy conditions.

There may be rain or sleet this evening which may freeze overnight and so pedestrians and motorists are advised to travel with care on Tuesday morning.

Met Eireann are predicting a very cold week with the temperature dipping below freezing every night and not getting much above freezing during the day.

Cork City Council’s Road crews continue to deploy our Winter Maintenance Plan which includes the salting/gritting of the main traffic routes, bus routes and the airport access route.

Key Footpaths in the City Centre are also salted to ensure that they remain ice free.

Our winter response will continue for the next week at which point it will be reviewed based on the prevailing climactic conditions at that time.

Businesses and residents are asked to check your premises to ensure that there are no leaking water pipes on your property, especially pipework that may be exposed to the elements.  See Irish Water's website for information on frozen or burst pipes.
