Cork City Council's 2025 Sports Capital Grants Scheme Announced
03/03/2025
Cork City Council’s longstanding support for sporting clubs and organisations continues with the approval of €500,000 in Sports Capital Grants for 2025.
Launched today, the grants scheme provides funding for projects that are directly related to enhancing facilities or the purchase of equipment, assisting local voluntary sporting organisations and clubs in developing and enhancing sports and physical recreation throughout the city.
Announcing this year’s grants, Valerie O’Sullivan, Chief Executive of Cork City Council, recognised that sports clubs, run by volunteers, are essential to maintaining a vibrant and sustainable sports sector. She said: “Sporting clubs and organisations are at the heart of our communities right across the City and they are a vital outlet for people’s health and wellbeing. With the Capital Grants Scheme, we are committed to playing our part in the continuing development of sports facilities throughout Cork city.”
Over the years, the scheme has supported all types of clubs and organisations, from football and rowing to athletics and taekwondo. There were approximately 100 applications received for the 2024 scheme. This consistent financial support offered by the council greatly assists the clubs and delivers benefits to the wider community.
The capital grants are not intended as an alternative to other sources of funding, but they complement other schemes, helping to bolster local contributions or assisting with funding where certain works are not covered by other grant schemes. They allow for minor capital work towards enhancement of premises, pitches, etc., as well as funding non-personal sports equipment that will be used for at least five years.
Sporting clubs and organisations can find further information and apply for a grant online at Grant Application.
