The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Dan Boyle launched the 2025 Lord Mayor's Community & Voluntary Awards at an event in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Cork.

This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the annual awards. Since 2004, the Lord Mayor's Community and Voluntary Awards have recognised over 130 voluntary and community groups across Cork City for their invaluable contribution to life in the city. The awards are presented to one overall winner and to six category winners.

The six categories for 2025 are:

  • Arts, Culture, Recreation & Heritage
  • Climate action, Active Travel & Sustainable development
  • Community Development & Lifelong Learning
  • Recreation, Sport, Heath & Well Being
  • Social Inclusion, Advocacy & Integration
  • Social Services, Charities & Environment

Speaking at the launch event the Lord Mayor said:

“Cork is built on community involvement, and the spirit of volunteerism is at the heart of the social, cultural and educational life of our city. The annual Lord Mayor’s Community and Voluntary Awards aim to recognise the selfless and dedicated contributions of groups to their communities and our city.

The Awards have a distinguished history over many years as Cork’s longest and most authentic platform to recognise such efforts. They have over the years recognised and rewarded many fine recipients. I am honoured to be this year’s host. A special thank you to The Echo /Echolive.ie which - as title sponsor - have been on this journey with us from the beginning and which has been telling these stories of Cork for over 130 years”.

Gráinne McGuinness, Editor of The Echo/Echolive.ie, title sponsor and media partner for the awards, added:

"The Lord Mayor’s Community and Voluntary Award ceremony is one of the most uplifting events of the year in Cork city and it is a source of huge pride for us in The Echo that we have been involved in this project from the start. The Echo/echolive.ie is the paper and website of the Cork community, telling the stories that matter to the people of the city.

The awards go to the heart of everything that is good about living in Cork.  They recognise the amazing people who make our city great. We look forward to sharing the stories of the nominees and winners in the months ahead and I encourage everyone in Cork to think about groups who they would like to nominate."

The closing date for nominations is Friday 4 April and the winners will be announced at a Civic Ceremony in Cork City Hall on Wednesday 7 May 2025.

The public is invited to nominate community and voluntary groups they would like to see recognised for the good work in which they engage.
