Let’s……..PLAY BALL!
Two new Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA’s) opened by Cork City Council.
It’s time for kick off in Ballinlough and Grange as Cork City Council officially opened two new MUGA's this week with help from some local sports enthusiasts.
Second class students from St. Anthonys National School gave the new MUGA in Ballinlough a try while sixth class pupils from Scoil Nicolas were invited down to take part in a fun outdoor PE class on the new facility in Grange. Both groups had a special visit from Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Dan Boyle, during their session.
The Lord Mayor said, “It’s great to see young people being active but the best thing about these MUGA’s is that they are for everyone - young and old. Every time I pass one it is in use. These amenities all over the city are very important to Cork being an Active City and Cork City Council will continue to promote physical activity to make it easier for everyone to get active.”
David Walsh, Sports and Sustainability, Cork City Council added “MUGA’s are great fun facilities. Playing here with the kids brings me back to when I was younger, and we had nowhere like this to play whatever the weather. One of the greatest things about them is just that - they are not weather dependent and even on a cold December’s morning like this the boys and girls can get out and enjoy some active play.”
These MUGAs allow young people to take part in a range of sports and encourage active recreation within our parks. They have both basketball hoops and soccer nets installed but can be used for a wide range of games and activities.
Cork City Council will continue to promote new and exciting ways of staying active for local communities. For more information, please contact sports@corkcity.ie.
