'Welcome to our New City' Blarney family fun day this weekend

 Blarney Family Fun Day

Cork City Council is getting ready for the third of four ‘Welcome to our new city’ family fun days, which will take place in The Square, Blarney from 10am-2pm this Saturday, September 14th.

Hosted by Red FM in association with Cork City Council, Lord Mayor, Cllr. John Sheehan will be in attendance, welcoming the residents of Blarney to Cork City.

Lord Mayor of  Cork, Cllr John Sheehan said: “I'm excited to be attending the ‘Welcome to Our New City’ family day this week in Blarney and to be the first Lord Mayor  to visit schools in the newly extended Cork City. In the coming weeks, we will be visiting schools in Blarney, Tower, Ballincollig, Glanmire, Douglas, Frankfield, Grange and Whites Cross as well as working to build connections between the wider communities of the new city”.

Red FM's Big Red Bus will be there broadcasting '10-2 with Colm O'Sullivan' live from The Square, along with facepainters, a giant Jenga and Connect 4 for families to get stuck into and coaches from Cork Sports Partnership will be organising street games and races.  You can also get your groove on at an intergenerational drumming workshop and Cork Community Artlink will be there too, bringing their Book House installation.  The Book House installation was commissioned and paid for by Cork City Libraries as part of Cork World Bookfest 2019.

All are welcome – but make sure you arrive early! The first 100 people to join us will enjoy free ‘Blarney - City of Change' cupcakes and we’ll bring along our bags of ‘City of Change’ daffodil bulbs to celebrate our growing city.

The fourth in our series “Welcome to our new city” fun days will take place in Ballincollig Regional Park on Saturday 21st September.
