Cork City Libraries Receive Age Friendly Recognition & Achievement
Cork City Libraries were delighted to receive Age Friendly Recognition & Achievement from Minister Michael Ring and Age Friendly Ireland for their initiatives for older people. The award ceremony took place in Kevin Street Library on 1 October 2019.
At the Kevin Street Library, Dublin, Minister Michael Ring, Department of Rural and Community Development officially launched the National Age Friendly Libraries Recognition Programme and presented all 48 participating libraries with their Age Friendly Charter.
Following the launch, Senior Executive Librarian Patricia Looney, said: “We look forward to continuing our many clubs, groups and innovative programming to ensure that our libraries remain vibrant community hubs throughout the city - fostering wellbeing, participation and social inclusion and being a cornerstone to making Cork a truly age-friendly”
For 10 years Age Friendly Ireland has recognised the challenges and opportunities that exist in the context of our ageing population and is committed, to ensuring that Ireland is responsive to the needs of people of all ages and abilities as they grow older.
Ireland’s Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme is coordinated by Age Friendly Ireland, it brings together, supports and provides technical guidance to the 31 local authority led, multi-agency Age Friendly City and County Programmes.
