Objectives

The overall objective of this project is to establish a safe, high quality and continuous route for cyclists and pedestrian between Maglin Road and Gaelscoil Uí Riordáin.  This project aims to:

  • Create an environment which will encourage modal shift to sustainable forms of transport;
  • Provide a safe route to school;
  • Provide a high-quality infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians along the former Cork-Macroom Direct Railway line and develop its commuter value;
  • Deliver measures to enhance the user's travel experience in terms of safety and convenience;
  • Enhance connectivity for cyclists;
  • Expand overall cycle network.

Timeline

Public Consultation was held during the summer of 2023. All submissions received were reviewed, and Cork City Council is considering all points raised. Following discussions with the Local Area Elected Representatives, it has been agreed that potential amendments to the proposal be further assessed, including consideration of an alternative route. This is currently being  undertaken.
