Take extra care while walking: footpaths etc. can be extremely hazardous/slippery due to ice.

Our Severe Weather Assessment Team continues to monitor the situation .

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Rain and Snow warning for Cork, which is in effect from 13:00 on Saturday, January 4 until 17:00 on Sunday, January 5.

Cork City Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team is closely monitoring the situation and is in regular communication with Met Éireann.

Conditions this weekend are expected to be very cold, windy, and wet, with low temperatures and heavy rainfall forecasted. The precipitation will predominantly be rain, with some sleet expected at times on Sunday afternoon and evening with a chance of snow, particularly on higher ground.

Cork City Council will remain vigilant over the coming days and will stay in contact with Met Éireann to ensure we have the most up-to-date and accurate information on which to base our decisions.

Cork City Council has activated its Winter Maintenance Plan, which includes salting and gritting key roads in the city. Information on gritting and salting routes can be found here: Winter Maintenance - Cork City Council

Due to the expected weather conditions, the following warnings are in place:

·         Wintry showers and icy surfaces will create difficult travel conditions across the weekend, with heavy rain on Saturday and wintry showers on Sunday.

·         Driving conditions will be hazardous, even on gritted roads. Drivers are urged to slow down, exercise caution, remain aware of other road users (especially pedestrians and cyclists), and allow extra time for travel.

·         Footpaths are expected to be extremely hazardous and slippery due to ice.

While there is no widespread tidal flooding predicted, localised surface water and small rivers may burst their banks due to the heavy rain on Saturday.
