Works Extent
An NTA funded project, designed in-house by Cork City Council's Active Travel Team, this project includes a number of active travel works across the Southwest LEA. Locations include:
Works included new footpaths, upgrading/widening existing paths, upgrading modal filters, junction build outs, tactile paving, new/upgraded public lighting and new/upgraded stormwater drainage.
Objectives
- Enhanced connectivity for pedestrian and cyclists;
- Safer and more direct route for commuters, school goers and leisure enthusiasts;
- An environment which will encourage modal shift to active travel;
- An improved quality of life for residents in the area.
Summary of Key Deliverables
- 2,278m of new/upgraded footpaths;
- 2 upgraded modal filters;
- 25 new uncontrolled crossings;
- 12 new junction build-outs;
- 49 new public lighting columns;
- 55 upgraded public lighting heads;
- 70m of in-rail lighting;
- 27 new trees;
- 38 new planting beds.
Timeline
Start: Construction commenced in Q4 2022
Finish: Substantial completion in Q3 2023.
