Works Extent
Rathcooney Bridge is a single span clapper stone Bridge. It is located approximately 7km northeast of Cork City centre on the L2977 Rathcooney Road junction with the L2979 Spring Hill Road.
Scope of Works
- Rebuild parapets and approach walls.
- Rebuild abutments and wing walls.
- Replace damaged clapper stone.
- Install vehicle restraint at northern parapet and approach walls.
- Resurface bridge carriageway and approaches, include rubbing strip along base of parapets on eastern and western edge of carriageway.
- Install appropriate road markings and signage on approaches and at the junction.
Objectives
The objectives of the works are:
- Restore the overall structure integrity of the bridge and retain its heritage and aesthetics.
- Improve road user safety by rebuilding parapets, installing vehicle restraint, resurfacing the carriageway and including new road markings.
Timeline
Start: Construction is due to start in August 2024.
Finish: Project is expected to be completed by October 2024.
